This issue includes the Annual Gathering on 15 November, the Parish Rooms funding application, Haarlem Artspace talks, our Energy & Housing Group and the next bi-monthly Open Meeting in January.
Grassroots Wirksworth Annual Gathering
Come to our Annual Gathering on 15 November at 7pm in Wirksworth Memorial Hall. Bring finger foods to share!
We will start with brief reports from our groups – the Activists, Energy & Housing, Growers, Waste & Recycling.
There will be a brief business meeting for the Treasurer’s report, to elect the Treasurer, and to elect a new Communications Officer. Glennie Kindred is having to stand down from the post due to other commitments. So far, no one has come forward to take it on. Might you be interested? (Manage emails received on our email account, create newsletters, update website. Contact Mary Ann on 0169 820937 if you want more details.)
We have also invited members of a number of local organisations to join us to talk about mutual interests and our programme for next year.
After refreshments, we will welcome Hattie Kerr, a local resident with a knitwear business, talking to us about Crafting the Landscape – on the relationship that a craft person has with their craft and how much their craft is rooted in the landscape. Hattie put on a beautiful exhibition at the Festival, with garments she has made, photos and a video.

The Parish Rooms Project needs your vote!
Plans are afoot to transform the Wirksworth Parish Room into a venue which can benefit the whole community. The first stage is renovation of the 200-year old wooden floor to make it suitable for use by children’s holiday clubs/parties, dancing, pilates, yoga and a host of other groups. An application has been made for support from the Aviva Community Fund, but to enable this to go forward we need you to add your VOTE IN SUPPORT during the voting window from 24th October to 21st November.
The link you need to register and cast your vote is below. WE HAVE 10 VOTES EACH!
https://community-fund.aviva.co.uk/voting/project/view/17-3432
Please pass on this message on to your contacts, families, friends and colleagues – we need your votes to progress to the next round of the competitive application process. (Relevant to Grassroots Wirksworth as a way to build the resilience of our community.)
Haarlem Artspace have three more talks in their Internal Nebular programme, from 30 November.
Each talk lasts approximately 15 – 20 minutes followed by a Q&A session and then discussions will be opened out to the audience. Join them and spread the word.
The talks are being made into podcasts which you can listen and download for free from here.
Haarlem Artspace provides a space for knowledge exchange, encourages cross-fertilization of ideas, and collaborations.

Energy & Housing Group
The group initiated the process for establishing the Grassroots Wirksworth Community Land Trust, now awaiting the Charities Commission response to its application to become a charity. The Energy & Housing Group does not at present have the resources to tackle another new project, although ideas for a community wind turbine are still around. Consequently, regular meetings have been suspended for the time being.
Next bi-monthly Open Meeting
The next Open Meeting will be held at the Eco Centre on Porter Lane in January. Put the date of Friday, 19th January, 2018 in your diaries.
NOTE THAT WE HAVE CHANGED THE SOCIAL TO THE BEGINNING AT 6PM AND THE BUSINESS MEETING AT 7.30-9.
