Welcome!

We have all had a really busy summer and it has flown by. Sorry that we haven’t fitted in writing a newsletter before now.

What we’ve been up to –

• We joined in the Carnival procession at the end of May, dressed as very large vegetables and walking under our new banner. It’s fun to be silly. Any ideas for next year will be very welcome!
• We wrote an article about local wild places for Community Fayre, it’s on page 17 of their autumn edition and it’ll go on our website too.
• We’ve produced a new leaflet to explain what we do, which will also go on our website in the next few days.
• We’ve been working with the newly set up Safer Roads Group.
• We’ve been showing sustainability films at Northern Light Cinema thoughout the summer and afterwards talking together in the Royal Oak barn about experience held locally. Thanks to Rob Barlow, Bob Smail, Mary Ann Hooper, Gus and Fash Ashley, Katie Gallagher and Rosemary Blenkinsop for your input. You were great.

Northern Light Cinema are putting on more showings of Wilding this autumn, on September 29^th , October 2^nd  and October 14^th, so if you missed our sell out showings during the Festival you can still catch it.

Autumn Environmental Film Festival 
In partnership with Northern Light Cinema we will be showing two more films this autumn then taking a break for Christmas:Food inc 2 
Focusing on innovative farmers and food producers working for a healthier future showing on Sunday 6^th October 5.00pm and afterwards come and join us in The Barn at the Royal Oak to discuss the film. Also showing on

Happy Man Tree
This film charts the highs and lows of the campaign to save one 150 year old Plane tree. showing on Sunday 10^th November 5.00pm and  afterwards come and join us in the Oak Barn. Also showing on Tuesday November 12^th8.15pm. Buy tickets from the NLC website  www.tnlcinema.co.uk

Safer Roads News
The Safer Roads for Wirksworth group is going to use National Road Safety Week – 17th to the 23rd November – to invite local residents and businesses to explore ways to make the town safer for pedestrians and cyclists. Look out for their posters.

Winter Gathering – Save the date – December 17^th 7pm – 9pm at the Memorial Hall
Everyone who subscribes to Grassroots and members of the other sustainability groups in Wirksworth, are invited to celebrate what we are all doing and to mingle, at our winter gathering. Invitations will be coming shortly.

Public transport users group
We are in the process of setting up a group to encourage sustainable travel and reduce car journeys. The first task will be to research and publicise all the local transport available in the Wirksworth area. If you would like to be part of the group please contact grassrootswirksworth@gmail.com

Singing for nature
This is an invitation to all who’d like to sing for nature!
Adam Salt and Katie Gallagher are setting up the Derbyshire Climate Choir.
If you enjoy singing, and would like to take part in these peaceful protest performances for nature and climate this is for you!
They plan to meet monthly, on a Sunday evening.  The first meeting is on Sunday October 13th at 6pm at the Royal Oak Barn, North End, Wirksworth.
